# Actions

## Actions

The different actions available on an object depend on the permissions assigned in the user profile.

Similarly, certain actions in the tab depend on the profile's permission, such as mass actions.

This page describes only the main actions that can apply to different types of objects. If an action is specific to an object, it will be described in that object's documentation.

## Creation <a href="#action-add" id="action-add"></a>

{% @arcade/embed url="<https://app.arcade.software/share/B5g5420tGgGiOJ20W1Tf>" flowId="B5g5420tGgGiOJ20W1Tf" %}

The permission to create an object depends on the permission defined in the user profile.

For all inventory objects, creation is done in the same way:

1. Log in to GLPI;
2. Go to the object's page, for example **`Assets`** > **`Computers`** to add a computer;
3. Click the <i class="fa-plus-large">:plus-large:</i> button located in the horizontal menu;
4. If the inventory object has template management, choose the template to apply;
5. Fill in the different fields of the empty form;
6. Validate.

An option located in user preferences, *After creation, go to the created item*, allows you to choose, after creating an object, whether to display the newly created object or to display a new empty form to create another one.

## Display

{% @arcade/embed url="<https://app.arcade.software/share/d7cl1OwlnYvuLB8WcnFI>" flowId="d7cl1OwlnYvuLB8WcnFI" %}

The permission to display an object depends on the `read` permission in the user profile.

If the permission to display an object is not granted, the name of that object will not appear in the various GLPI menus. For example, if the permission to read an object of type `Computer` is not granted in the user's profile, the `Computer` submenu will not appear in the `Assets` menu, even if the permission to modify a `Computer` is granted.

For all inventory objects, displaying an object is done in the same way:

1. Log in to GLPI;
2. Go to the object's page, for example, to display a computer, go to **`Assets`** > **`Computers`**;
3. Or alternatively: search for the object in the search engine available at the top of the object list;
4. Click on the object's name.

## Attach a document

{% @arcade/embed url="<https://app.arcade.software/share/4ijQ5fHnGNf0Q8kLHvEl>" flowId="4ijQ5fHnGNf0Q8kLHvEl" %}

When available for the item type, attaching a document is done in the same way:

1. Log in to GLPI;
2. Go to the object's menu, for example, to attach to a computer, go to **`Assets`** > **`Computers`**;
3. Or alternatively: search for the object in the search engine available at the top of the object list;

Two options are available:

* Individual attachment:

  > 1. Click on the object's name;
  > 2. Select the **Documents** tab;
  > 3. Select a document or click the **Choose** button to add a new document;
  > 4. Or associate an existing document;
  > 5. Click the **Add** button.
* Mass attachment:

  > 1. Select the checkbox located to the left of the object's name;
  > 2. Click the **Actions** button and choose **Add a Document**

GLPI will then display the object's form with the newly attached document.

## Attach a contract

{% @arcade/embed url="<https://app.arcade.software/share/CLSErvhhBZK2J0E8OqXe>" flowId="CLSErvhhBZK2J0E8OqXe" %}

When available for the item type, attaching a contract is done in the same way:

1. Log in to GLPI;
2. Go to the object's menu, for example, to attach to a computer, go to **`Assets`** > **`Computers`**;
3. Or alternatively: search for the object in the search engine available at the top of the object list;

Two options are available:

* Individual attachment:

  > 1. Click on the object's name;
  > 2. Select the **Contracts** tab;
  > 3. Select a contract;
  > 4. Click the **Add** button.
* Mass attachment:

  > 1. Select the checkbox located to the left of the object's name;
  > 2. Click the **Actions** button and choose **Add a Contract;**
  > 3. Select the contract and click on **Add.**

GLPI will then display the object's form with the newly attached contract.

## Transfer between entities

{% @arcade/embed url="<https://app.arcade.software/share/DmZ281PDCO010MfNetdV>" flowId="DmZ281PDCO010MfNetdV" %}

Entities open up the possibility of defining transfer profiles to move items between entities. This notably allows for transitioning from a single-entity GLPI to a multi-entity GLPI.

To perform a transfer, it is first necessary to verify that the profile used has the permissions to perform transfers (**`Administration`** > **`Profiles`** > **`Administration`** > **`Read permission on transfer`**).

To perform a transfer:

1. Configure the actions performed by the transfer in Administration Transfer Rules;
2. Verify that the profile performing the transfer has permissions on the source entity and the destination entity (the simplest solution is to use a recursive profile from the root entity);
3. Go to the root entity (`See all`);
4. From the object list, select the item to transfer;
5. Choose **Add to transfer list** then **Validate**;
6. In the **Transfer Mode**, select a transfer configuration profile that was created in step 2;
7. Select the destination entity, to which the object will be transferred;
8. Click **Execute**;
9. Verify in the destination entity that the object is present.

{% hint style="info" %}
If a linked item does not exist in the destination entity, it will be automatically created if the transfer profile requests to keep it.

Example: transferring a `Computer` with a supplier defined in the accounting information: if this supplier only exists in the source entity, it will be created in the destination entity; however, a supplier defined in the root entity with recursion enabled will not be recreated.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
The location and group must be updated for the destination entity.
{% endhint %}

## Deletion

{% @arcade/embed url="<https://app.arcade.software/share/HVdg4r3pQ0wQkL2WhCdX>" flowId="HVdg4r3pQ0wQkL2WhCdX" %}

The permission to delete an object depends on the `delete` permission in the user profile.

For all inventory objects, deleting an object is done in the same way:

1. Log in to GLPI;
2. Go to the object's page, for example, to delete a computer, go to **`Assets`** > **`Computers`**;
3. Or alternatively: search for the object in the search engine available at the top of the object list;
4. Two deletion options are then possible:
   * Individual deletion:

     > 1. Click on the object's name;
     > 2. Click the **Delete** button;
   * Mass deletion:

     > 1. Select the checkbox located to the left of the object's name;
     > 2. Click the **Actions** button;
     > 3. Select **Put on trashbin**.

In both cases, a choice will need to be made between:

* *Move to trash* if the object has an associated trash. In this case, the object can be restored later;
* *Delete permanently* if the object does not have an associated trash. In this case, GLPI will ask for confirmation before actually deleting the object from the database.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.glpi-project.org/documentation/12-en/overview/actions.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
